WWII Combat Engineers - What Did They Do?

Here is some information sent to me by Michael J. Brodhead, Ph.D., Historian, Office of History, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from a reference work entitled Order of Battle U. S. Army, World War II:

The 327th Engineer Combat Battalion was formed 15 September 1942 at Camp Maxey, Texas; left New York Port of Embarkation 12 September 1944; arrived in England 23 September 1944; arrived in France, European Theater of Operations, 23 September 1944; participated in the Ardennes-Alsace, Central Europe, and Rhineland campaigns; located at Neudietendorf, Germany, in August 1945 (end of the war with Japan); arrived at the New York Port of Embarkation 20 March 1946; inactivated 21 March 1946 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey.
